Yesterday being the 10th day of June, 2016 marks the 5th day of the Sit at Home Strike Action which is tagged “NO LIGHT, NO LECTURE” embarked on, by the students of University of Nigeria, Enugu Campus.
With the peaceful presentation of the student’s demands in
the various meetings held with authorities of the school including one with the
DVC yesterday 9th of June, no definite resolution has been attained
yet, even though reports stated that the students have been persuaded by the
authorities to end the strike action.
The students have been and is still holding unto the peaceful
sit at home action, not in any form intending to yield to the persuasions of
the authorities so far. The students and its executive body notwithstanding still
has the strong will that positive response would emerge from their boycott action
which was never meant in any form to pass a negative impression to the
concerned but for their benefit especially in academic sector.
In an interview with the President of SUG as earlier promised
in this platform, He has described the school executive council to be a student
friendly one and expressed his wholehearted trust in their coming with
a positive response for the students as regards their demands which are all
channeled towards the betterment of the entire campus.
Some students of the campus have been reported to question
their way forward from the present stand in this boycott action, and this has
raised a great amount of concern by many students in the campus and outside
it’s environment.
The President of the association was able to responded to the
curious questions of the students during the interview, commending the students
support so far in this action and in a bid to strengthen their hold unto the
power wielded by them as students of the institution, he has stressed the need
for oneness
of the entire students, especially in a time like this.
He also expressed his believe in a positive response by the
authorities and urged every student to be patient enough with what is going on
now as there will be no gain without a pain. He ended by stating “Aluta
Continua…Victoria Ascertain, an injury to one is always an injury to all, and standing
together in this race, all intended purposes would be achieved”.
A congress meeting
at Moot Court Complex UNEC was held today which in summary the SUG and
the students agreed on Continuation with the boycott action prior to
response from the School authorities in the demands made.
There was also a report that the School administration was also in a congress based on this issue at the same moment.
