Due to the New Year prophecy on President Muhammadu Buhari by the Spiritual Director of Adoration Ministry, Enugu, Rev. Fr. Ejike Mbaka,
alleging that the President’s life is in danger, the apex Igbo socio
cultural organisation, Ohanaeze Ndigbo has descended heavily on him.
Speaking at a media briefing yesterday, January 14, in Awka, the president of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Anambra state and the coordinating Chairman of Ohanaeze in the seven Igbo speaking states, Elder Chris Eluemunor, said the Catholic priest has become a distraction in the Nigeria polity.
The Sun reports that Eluemunor said contrary to Fr. Mbaka’s prophecy, President Buhari, as the Commander-in-Chief was in safe hands, noting that the President is doing a good job by fighting corruption and that Ohanaeze fully supports his anti-corruption fight.
“Fr. Mbaka should really shut up and preach the word of God which he was ordained to do than raising unnecessary alarm and creating panic in the country. Even if a revelation was given to him, he should keep it to himself and pray over it. Fr Mbaka’s statement is a distraction to what the President is doing and he should stop the kind of alarm he is raising in the country,” he said.
According to him, Nigerians should know that it is no longer business as usual, adding that with the way Buhari is going, there will be sanity that would lead to financial probity and restoration in the decline of economic fortunes of the country.
The Ohanaeze boss cautioned the President to ensure that the anti-graft war is fought within the ambit of the law.
Responding to questions on the struggle and protests by the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), he disclosed that Ohanaeze was satisfied with the discontinuation of further protests and violent struggle by the group.
Eluemunor praised pro-Biafra for their attitude so far and hinted that there is an ongoing dialogue with the Presidency on the continued detention of Nnamdi Kanu as well as other issues. He expressed optimism that something positive would come up very soon.
The Ohanaeze boss predicted that Kanu will be released soon to Igbo elders, but warned the IPOB and other pro-Biafra groups to function as pressure groups in the country and not organizations seeking for a separate or secessionist target.
According to him, Ndigbo are not ready for separation yet as the Igbo man continues to invest in other parts of the country. He assured that the issues of marginalization of the South East will be addressed by the current administration during the implementation of the 2016 budget.
Fr. Mbaka, who recently blasted those who labeled him a false prophet unveiled his predictions for the year 2016.
As a reaction to the New Year prophesy, Buhari South-East Youth Movement (BSEYM) threatened to shut down Nigeria if anything ugly happens to President Muhammadu Buhari. BSEYM asked any person or group with such evil plan to have a rethink “because such will spell doom for not just the country.”
But, the Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria described Mbaka’s prophecy as “sensationalism”, “rumour peddling” and “delusional fantasy.” The group called on the Nigerian Catholic hierarchy to sanction the cleric over his shifting from sacred vocation to political issues.
