Do not Judge
daily devotional

7 “Do not judge, or you too will be judged. 2 For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.
3 “Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother’s eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye? 4 How can you say to your brother, ‘Let me take the speck out of your eye,’ when all the time there is a plank in your own eye? 5 You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother’s eye.
Matthew 7:1-5  New International Version (NIV)

Daily devotional
There is a beautiful action song which goes like: "When you point a finger at your neighbor, there are three more pointing back at you..." It summaries the message of Jesus in today's Gospel, that is, stop being judgmental and finding fault with others. Everybody is a critic, but nobody wants to be judged or condemned. Avoiding negative, and often unjust judgments on others is a sign of humility.

We are to discern situations, and not to the judge of others. We must exercise judgement to distinguish between what is good and what is evil around us. We must not make ourselves a judge of people as if we are better than others and had the right to condemn others. 'To judge' here really means 'to condemn' (cf. Luke 6:37). We are forbidden to condemn people because good or evil is a matter not of external behavior but of the intention of the heart which only God can see (Mt. 5:21-48;15:10-20); and since all of us are sinners, none of us has the right to condemn (Jn 8:1-11). Indeed judging others is often a sign of unease with ourselves. As we begin this working week, May Christ grant us the grace to discover our neighbor's good points and not so much of their mistakes so that we can always forgive and accept others as they are. Amen! Good morning!! Have a successful and fulfilled working week!!!
